1. Introduction

Pricer ("we", "our" or "us") operates a price comparison platform that helps New Zealanders compare supermarket product prices. We respect your privacy and are committed to protecting your personal information. This policy explains what we collect, how we use it and the rights you have. It is written to comply with the New Zealand Privacy Act 2020.

2. Information We Collect

We only collect what we need to run the service:

  • Account information — your name, email address and an encrypted password when you create an account.
  • Your preferences — the products you save to your list, the stores you select, and your notification settings.
  • Communications — any messages you send us, such as support requests or feedback.
  • Technical and usage data — basic information your browser sends automatically, such as device and browser type, and anonymous, aggregated usage statistics (see section 6).

We do not collect sensitive financial details such as your income or bank account information. Pricer is an information tool only — you do not transact through us.

3. How We Use Your Information

We use your information to:

  • Create and manage your account;
  • Save your product list and store selections so you can compare basket totals;
  • Send notifications you have asked for, such as price changes or service updates;
  • Respond to your enquiries and provide support;
  • Maintain, secure and improve the service; and
  • Meet our legal obligations and prevent misuse or fraud.

4. We Do Not Sell Your Data

We do not sell, rent or trade your personal information to anyone, and we never will. We do not share your information for third-party advertising. We only disclose information in the limited circumstances below:

  • Service providers — trusted suppliers who help us run Pricer (for example hosting and email delivery), bound by confidentiality and permitted to use the data only to provide their service to us;
  • Legal requirements — where we are required to by law, a court order or a lawful request from a government agency; and
  • Business transfer — if Pricer is involved in a merger, acquisition or sale of assets, in which case any new owner remains bound by this policy.

5. Cookies

We use cookies and similar technologies to keep you signed in, remember your preferences and understand how the service is used. You can control or disable cookies through your browser settings, though some features may not work properly without them.

6. Analytics

We use Google Analytics to collect anonymous, aggregated metrics about how people use Pricer — such as which pages are visited and broad usage trends. This helps us understand what is working and improve the service. The data is anonymised and is not used to identify you individually. Google processes this information in accordance with its own privacy policy.

7. Data Security

We take reasonable technical and organisational steps to protect your information, including encryption in transit, secure infrastructure and access controls. No system can be guaranteed completely secure, but we work to keep your information safe and to respond promptly to any issues.

8. Data Retention

We keep your personal information only for as long as we need it to provide the service or as required by law. If you close your account, we will delete or anonymise your personal information within a reasonable period, except where we are required to retain it.

9. Your Rights

Under the Privacy Act 2020 you have the right to:

  • Access the personal information we hold about you;
  • Correct information that is inaccurate or out of date; and
  • Request deletion of your account and personal information.

10. Children

Pricer is not directed at children under 16, and we do not knowingly collect their personal information. If you believe a child has provided us with information, please contact us and we will remove it.

11. Changes to This Policy

We may update this policy from time to time. When we do, we will revise the "last updated" date above. Significant changes will be communicated through the service or by email where appropriate.
